Boise's Underground Produce

Here is a logo I came up with recently for a local co-op that is getting going in Boise. I originally had a cityscape in the background. Originally I had a little inspiration from Russian propaganda type posters. I wanted bold shapes and colors as well as more industrial san-serif fonts. Also fun side note I was the one who came up with the name "Underground Produce" for the company. I like the way it turned out.

Caricature Sketch/Painting

We were practicing caricatures in my Illustration class the semester I made these it was around the same time I combined Keith Richards with a lion. (my first blog post) The reason Keith Richards was combined with a lion was because of his hair. There is no association with bravery or leadership or something like that that lead me to choose a lion besides his hair. These I wanted to wait to post to my Blog. I really feel as though they turned out well and I don't mean much mockery with this: the combination of the person with a monkey. There were certain things as arbitrary as Keith Richards hair that lead me to chose a monkey. (plus then I got to draw my running banana)

ESH Chalkbag Poster

This is an ESH poster I did to show that the ESH Adventure Company does custom chalk bags with recycled and repurposed materials. I love the way this poster turned out. The grid of the clothing and the "cut-out" of the chalk bag in the material, I think, was a great way to visually communicate their philosophy. It is hanging at Urban Ascent climbing gym and some other locations around town.

ESH Ambassador Shirt

I designed the ESH Ambassador shirt. I got inspiration for the design from my heavy hands sketches. Perhaps heavy hands are good for bouldering? So he's hanging off the crux move of the climb leading it's way to the ESH logo. I think it turned out nice.

signature

So the way I have developed my signature is into a logo. This is the logo I have on my resume and invoices and such.

Redone URSC Cover

I decided to redo the conference cover. The top was the original layout and I chose to rework the text placement and colors to better compliment the illustrated background (bottom image). I think it looks pretty good. I like the color changes and it doesn't feel like it covers the background like it kind
of did before.

Happy People Logo

You might have heard of Happy People. They've played a few places around Boise. My dad plays the lead guitar and sings. I decided they couldn't have a clip art/word art logo, so I made them this. I wanted to make something that could stand alone just as a shape (the h&p) and with the text. Next I want to get some shirts made.

Top Hat Panorama

This is a panorama I made for Digital Photography this past semester. This was the project that inspired my hat project that I created for my final piece. It was shot with a digital camera and edited in Photoshop.

Pursuit Winter Camp Shirts 2010 & 2009

These are youth Winter Camp shirts I created for the Pursuit church. One thing that was specified by the youth group leader was that he wanted a shirt that the youth would want to keep wearing long after the camp was over.

Aggressive Paisley Snowboard

My sketch it at the top. I used the sketched lines in the final snowboard design. I played on the patterns of a paisley print. In this project, playing with color was something I tried to experiment with. I always thought that working for a company that centered on recreation would be great because the subject matter of the projects would always be interesting and fun to work with. Perhaps Burton or something...

Hats in Digital Photography

This semester has been so busy I haven't had a chance to update anything. So now that it's over I am going to try to make a point to update my blog everyday (or at least every week). This is a project I did this semester in Digital Photography. It was about how hats project meaning onto the wearer. It was a fun subject. Most of the hats are mine and some are my sisters. The photos were shot with a digital camera and edited in Photoshop.

Following Time

This was a calendar project for my Graphic Design studio class. It is an alternative way of recording time by the kinds of pills we take. These days everyone is either taking or has taken pills so I felt as though it was an experience many could relate to. In this case I changed the kind of prescription drugs one can take to kinds of small actions that we over look that influence our day. I had 3 pill options; One for pushing the snooze button, one for driving a car, and one for turning on the television. The left panel is instructions and side effects, the center is the calendar where you would take a sticker pill out of each pill bottle and stick it in the hand on the calendar to record the number of "pills" taken that day.

Do heavy hands come in handy?

I came up with an idea of this character that had giant hands and came up with some situations for him. I think I might expand upon this idea later... just take it a little further... maybe a short illustrated story or a cleaned up bigger version.

Another little thing...

I just liked this egg and I wanted to share.

Mile High Club

There was a play that a guy in my class had chosen for a poster, it was "Boeing Boeing", it's a play about a love triangle with a pilot and flight attendants and I thought it would have been cool to do something like this for the poster...

Sketchbook Page

Man with a spyglass...

Messing with my photos

I took these photos and printed them on some colored textured paper and painted over them. I think they turned out pretty neat. I have a couple of things out of my sketchbook I want to post up too... I like the pink car... someone's drunk behind the wheel.

College of arts and science

Cover spread that tried to blend disciplines of arts and sciences. I didn't get picked for the catalog cover but I like to think that they had a really hard time choosing and mine was an incredibly close second...

Meat or Meet?

One word project, an acrylic painting about the word "Meet"
